Audi opens the next chapter of its successful history in the mid-size car segment with the new A5 family. Launched 30 years after the first Audi A4, the new generation, now called Audi A5, impresses with its premium proportions and refined design. The new body style perfectly embodies the sporty essence of Audi's design philosophy. A new interior design language creates a generous sense of space and highlights the displays on a digital stage. The new operating concept enhances vehicle interaction. Efficient, partially electrified combustion engines and exciting S models complete the lineup.
With the expansion of its model range, AUDI AG has restructured the nomenclature of its vehicles since 2024. The numbers in the names of electric and combustion engine models are the differentiator. In the future, even numbers will designate electric models, while odd numbers will designate combustion engine vehicles. With the introduction of the latest generation, the long-time bestseller Audi A4 will be called Audi A5 and produced in Neckarsulm. In Canada, it is available in two new variants: as the A5 Sedan and S5 Sedan. These versions are the first models to be launched on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner on the new model family: "In tandem with the expansion of our all-electric portfolio, we are launching a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The Audi A5 family, with its athletic design, completely new interior, and future-proof electronic architecture, will be the first. The advanced MHEV plus technology enables partially electric driving and thus even greater efficiency."
The new models gain in length and width. Audi is also enhancing their standard equipment, positioning the new Audi A5 in the premium segment of mid-size cars. The new user experience based on version 1.2 of the E³ electronic architecture aligns with this aspiration. The optional equipment is grouped into various packages.
Dynamic and muscular exterior design

At first glance, the completely redesigned A5 family features a powerful and clean design. The modified proportions with a long wheelbase, large wheels, and low, sporty body embody progressive dynamics and premium standards. In the sedan, the sporty and compact greenhouse extends rearward in an elegant arc, seamlessly blending into the shallow rear window similar to a coupe, and ends at the visually short trunk lid with a striking spoiler lip.
The new rear hatch in this vehicle segment offers a convincing symbiosis of design and functionality. It opens with the rear window and its size greatly facilitates access to the luggage compartment. This results in an entirely new sedan concept for Audi.
The front is dominated by the wide and significantly flatter Singleframe proportion with a three-dimensional honeycomb structure. Combined with the slim and precisely drawn headlights, it shapes the vehicle's face and gives it a striking and focused expression. Thanks to the integrated "soft nose" in the bumper, the hood aligns perfectly with the vehicle's front. The prominent shoulder bulges over the front and rear wheels hark back to the Audi Urquattro and represent a fundamental element of Audi's design DNA.
The distinctive and striking rear combines sporty and emotional design with intelligent technology. A combination of sculptural geometry and a continuous three-dimensional light strip gives the rear of the new Audi A5 a visual presence and dynamism. Other highlights of the rear view in the base models are the clear and modern bumper design with a dark diffuser and high-quality rectangular exhaust tips.
New standards in digital light

The Audi A5 family is equipped with digital daytime running lights using LED technology at the front and second-generation digital OLED rear lights. With approximately 60 segments per digital OLED panel, these rear lights become true dynamic displays for the A5.
This enables car-to-x communication and increases road safety – for example, with the new communication light. Dynamic lighting effects when unlocking and departing the vehicle reflect the aesthetics of movement as part of Audi's light DNA. The active digital light signature also transmits a new sense of liveliness.
The headlights and taillights are designed in three dimensions, offering optional digital light signatures and thus bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds.

Technology meets comfort in the new interior

The design of the new Audi A5's interior is based on four distinctive characteristics. First, the interior has a human-centric design, constantly oriented towards the needs of its users. The second special feature is the Digital Stage, which establishes itself in front of the driver and front passenger in the form of Audi’s MMI displays. With its Material-Driven Design, the Audi A5 series meets the demand for a generous sense of space with a high level of comfort. The clear layout and user-friendly interior offer an overview in all situations, forming the fourth characteristic: Visual Clarity. Added to this is the optional dynamic interaction light to support the car’s interaction with the occupants.
Audi’s Panoramic MMI Display and Head-Up Display
The new operating concept of the Audi A5 family enhances vehicle interaction through the E³ electronic architecture. The new Audi A5 seamlessly integrates into our customers' digital ecosystem and offers a personal connectivity experience. Audi's slim, standalone panoramic MMI display has a curved design and uses OLED technology. It consists of the Audi virtual cockpit with an 11.9-inch diagonal display and the 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen. Audi completes the digital stage for the front passengers with the optional 10.9-inch MMI display, which integrates seamlessly into the dashboard design. The new A5 features a configurable head-up display that has been further improved compared to its predecessor. For the first time, drivers now have the option to control vehicle and infotainment functions via the head-up display.
Advanced MHEV plus Hybrid System
The new MHEV plus system, based on a 48-volt electrical system, supports the combustion engine and reduces CO2 emissions while increasing performance. The power generator (PTG) enables partially electric driving, contributing to reduced fuel consumption.
Compared to a standard MHEV system, the new MHEV plus system offers significant advantages in terms of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in the Audi A5 model series.
The PTG can also add up to 18 kW (24 hp) of electric power to the output of the combustion engine. During deceleration, the PTG returns energy to the battery (recuperation) of up to 25 kW. As a result, purely electric maneuvering and parking are possible to a certain extent. Thanks to the option of using an electric air conditioning compressor, the air conditioning system can also operate when the vehicle is stationary at traffic lights and the combustion engine is off.
With the integrated brake control system capable of blending (iBRS), the brake pedal and brake hydraulics can be completely decoupled. In models equipped with the MHEV plus system, for example, it allows the necessary deceleration to be achieved without using the friction brakes thanks to regenerative braking. This means that deceleration is initially achieved solely through recuperation. The friction brakes only engage when the brake pedal is pressed harder. The braking feel remains unchanged by this.
Engines at Market Launch
The efficient engines in the Audi A5 family cover a wide range: from the entry-level model with a conventional engine to the comfortable long-distance runner and the dynamic sports car. The powertrains, transmissions, degree of electrification, and type of transmission are tailored to the expectations of our customers.
The entry-level engine is a 2.0 TFSI with an output of 150 kW (204 hp). This TFSI engine is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger (VTG) and operates with a modified combustion process that is particularly fuel-efficient under partial load.
VTG technology allows for a consistent and agile torque build-up even at low speeds in gasoline engines. The turbocharged four-cylinder is available with a dual-clutch transmission.
The Audi S5 is a sports car based on a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine with 270 kW (367 hp) and an optimized combustion process. It features a variable geometry turbocharger (VTG) and MHEV plus technology for the first time. The revised S tronic dual-clutch transmission in the Audi S5, designed for higher torque, also reduces weight on the front axle and improves agility. Partial electrification through the new 48-volt MHEV plus system reduces CO2 emissions via electrified driving components and high recuperation performance. Its rapid and dynamic torque build-up underlines the sportiness of the Audi S5. The standard use of a quattro sport differential with torque vectoring in combination with a regulated all-wheel drive clutch is designed for lateral dynamics at the highest level.
Dynamic Chassis Design and Steering
Thanks to the continuous development of the suspension, the new Audi A5 perfectly brings the brand's typical driving characteristics to the road. Thanks to in-depth detail work on the suspension and steering, the Audi A5 offers precise, effortless, and largely neutral handling that, if the optional suspension with adaptive dampers is selected, can be significantly differentiated between comfort and sportiness. The progressive steering, as always with Audi in the new model, has also become considerably more precise.
